ARCH Air Medical Service is a critical care air ambulance service providing coverage for Missouri, Illinois and the surrounding regions. As one of the first air medical operations in the United States, ARCH has been providing quality patient care since March of 1979. The program began operations as "MARC" (Medical Air Rescue Corps) and was based at St. Louis University Medical Center. In August of 1987, the structure of the company was changed to that of a not-for-profit consortium sponsored by St. Louis' three adult trauma centers (Barnes Hospital, St. John's Mercy Medical Center and St. Louis University Medical Center)The name "ARCH" (Area Rescue Consortium of Hospitals) was selected to identify the cooperative effort. In April 2000, ARCH was acquired by Air Methods Corporation located in Englewood, CO. ARCH is widely recognized as one of the finest air medical transport programs in the country. In order to maintain recognition the name "ARCH" (Area Rescue Consortium of Hospitals) was officially changed to ARCH Air Medical Service The service now operates as a for profit independent provider continuing to serve all hospitals within its region. ARCH Air Medical Service is proud to be accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems. (CAMTS) Developed exclusively by and for air medical services, this national accreditation process focuses on quality of patient care and safety of the transport environment through an in-depth review by professional surveyors of the Commission. ARCH Air Medical Service has voluntarily submitted to this independent appraisal and has earned this mark of distinction.
