Info
Founded in 1999 as an independent publisher committed to environmental education and publishing excellence, Sagaponack Books encourages children to know and understand the natural world. Promoting science through literature, each hardcover book is a reliable source of educational material that accurately depicts nature and its corresponding environment. Author visits to schools, libraries, and organizations encourage children to read and write creatively, build curiosity, and explore ways to benefit our wildlife and environment. Sagaponack Books joined the Green Press Initiative in 2004 and is steadfast to implement policies that support the global preservation of endangered forests and promote accountability within the publishing industry. The books are printed on postconsumer recycled paper, furthering our commitment to protecting the environment and to the responsible use of natural resources. The primary goal of our partnership with the Green Press Initiative is to join the book industry's utilization of postconsumer recycled fiber increase from an average of 5 percent to 30 percent and to have industry stakeholders work to eliminate endangered forest fibers by July 2008. The annual ecological benefit of this goal will be: the life of 4.9 million trees; the reduction/prevention of 524 million pounds of greenhouse gases; the saving of 2 billion gallons of water; the reduction/ prevention of 388,137 pounds of hazardous air pollutants; and reduced pressure on rare and threatened forests. The publishing industry has the potential to make a positive difference in our ecological environment, and like any monumental change, it involves both awareness and action. Let's all do what we can and work together!
