The McClatchy Company (McClatchy) is a newspaper company with 30 daily newspapers, approximately 50 non-dailies and direct marketing and direct mail operations located in 29 markets across the United States. The Company also operates local Websites in each of its markets. McClatchy-owned newspapers include, among others, The Miami Herald, The Sacramento Bee, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, The Kansas City Star, The Charlotte Observer and The (Raleigh) News & Observer. The Company owns and operates McClatchy Interactive, an interactive operation that provides Websites with content, publishing tools and software development. McClatchy owns 14.4% of Career Builder, LLC and 25.6% of Classified Ventures, LLC. On June 27, 2006, the Company acquired Knight-Ridder, Inc. and subsequently sold 12 of the daily newspapers acquired in Knight-Ridder. On March 5, 2007, McClatchy sold the (Minneapolis) Star Tribune newspaper and other publications and Websites related to the newspaper.(Source: 10-K)
