The Little Harbor Foundation was created to allow each department within Little Harbor to choose a not-for-profit organization each month. The company then collects voluntary cash donations from employees for beverages the company provides at no charge. The funds collected are matched 100 percent by Earthmark Companies, the real estate development company overseeing the Little Harbor project. The money is then distributed to the charity of choice as cash or in-kind donations. Since the program's inception in 2006, the company has raised more than $6000 to support local not-for-profit organizations in the Ruskin community. C.A.R.E. is a non-profit, no-kill animal shelter founded by Dr. Hal Ott of Ruskin Animal Hospital. Its purpose is to provide shelter, medical care and adoption of neglected, abused and unwanted animals.
