The Rome Police Department maintains a local training facility located at 2626 Callier Springs Road. This facility houses an indoor firing range, and two classrooms. Outside, the facility maintains a large outdoor firing range and range house. Training materials which support the department's evolution toward Community Policing, School Resource Officers, Crime Prevention, Family Violence, R.I.S.E., and Explorer programs are maintained and distributed from here. In addition to the services mentioned above, the City of Rome Police Department sponsors a Citizens Police Academy to enhance public awareness of just exactly what police officers do on the job. R.I.S.E.(Responsibility Increased Student Excellence) is a fifteen week course that introduces our youth to substance abuse reduction, anti violence character education and Life Skills curriculum. The students are introduced to issues they may face in their lifetime. Some of the topics are: Pressures and InfluencesDealing Confidently with StressAnger Management SkillsConflict ResolutionBalancing Responsibilities with RightsAlternative Activities Leaders and FollowersSetting Worthy GoalsThe lessons were developed to satisfy the Georgia Quality Core Curriculum (GQC) standards and are interesting and interactive. The graduation publicly recognizes the students for their participation and commitment to the R.I.S.E. program. The Training Division is also responsible for the School Resource Officer program. This program enables the department to supply three officers to work in the City School System.
