Info
The Heritage Theatre Company was formed during the summer of 2003 with the goal of combining the essence of "the glory days" of the 1970s' Arena Stage in Washington, D.C. (the Zelda Fichandler era) with that of the then young and emerging Steppenwolf Theatre Company of Chicago, and mixing the two to present the finest American classics and unique literary and historic adaptations in a unique, fearless, uncompromising, truthful, artistic, and passionate style. We have specialized in the masterful works of Eugene O'Neill in the past, but have recently been broadening our repertoire with works of history and major historical events by Michael Shaara, John F. Kennedy, and Stanley R. Greenberg. In late December of 2005, The Heritage Theatre Company forged a partnership with The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission in order to produce classical and historical productions at the outdoor amphitheatre (The Amphitheatre in the Woods) at Cabin John Regional Park in Potomac, Maryland, thereby adding another dimension to the company's repertoire. In 2007, the company and its Founder was granted permission by the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation to adapt President Kennedy's 1957 Pulitzer Prize winning book, "PROFILES IN COURAGE" to the stage as a World Premiere to honor the 50th anniversary of the book having won the Pulitzer Prize. And in 2008, it will receive the high honor of presenting the riveting Stanley R. Greenberg masterwork, "PUEBLO," for the actual crew of The U.S.S. PUEBLO at their 40th anniversary reunion in New England during September of 2008. Major announcements will be in store as we forge into our 2008 and 2009 seasons with many other voices which need to be heard.
