Clancy & Theys was founded in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1949 by brothers-in-law E.I. Clancy and John Theys. The company started out building homes during the post-war housing boom, but quickly switched to commercial construction in the 1950s. The company made its reputation by taking on demanding projects, often renovations, and by holding to traditional values of fairness, superior workmanship, and competitive pricing. Public projectsÂ-many for schools, colleges and universitiesÂ-were mainstays of the company's work. Private sector opportunities in North Carolina's Research Triangle area led to specialties in the construction of offices and R&D facilities.
