Oregon Culinary Institute, a division of Pioneer Pacific College, is uncompromisingly dedicated to helping people improve their lives through high-quality, college-level, career education. To accomplish this mission, Oregon Culinary Institute:Offers a curriculum that teaches students the academic, technical, and interpersonal skills necessary for entry-level culinary employment and future career advancement. Teaches up-to-date technologies on modern equipment, and uses computers whenever appropriate in the program.Keeps culinary career programs current and relevant. By maintaining constant contact and involvement with the restaurant industry and by forecasting the changing needs of the culinary profession, the college continually upgrades and modifies career programs to enhance each graduate's employment potential. Maintains "hands-on training" as the foundation of our educational philosophy. Practical application in well-equipped kitchen and computer labs coupled with theoretical reinforcement in the classroom allows students to acquire substantial knowledge in their chosen career field. Externships are used to provide the student with real-world experience. Provides a business-like environment by expecting dependable attendance, responsible attitudes, and professional behavior from students, who in turn are treated with respect by the faculty and staff. Has an open-door policy to afford students the freedom to discuss problems and solutions with any member of the faculty or administration. The entire staff actively works together with students to remove obstacles to their personal and professional goals. Gives as much personalized attention as possible to each student. All students are encouraged to ask questions and to seek assistance and extra help. In addition, the college endeavors to keep student-teacher ratios at appropriate levels for lecture and laboratory subjects.
