Juvaris BioTherapeutics is a new biotechnology company, started in February, 2003, that is developing potent active immunotherapeutic vaccines. Active immunotherapy involves the activation of the patient's own immune system to combat disease as opposed to passive immunotherapy utilizing administration of preformed monoclonal antibodies. We use Lipid + DNA (non-gene containing) complexes to up-regulate the immune system to deliver antigens. We create disease specific therapeutic vaccines. We develop products for cancer and chronic infectious disease treatment. JuvImmuneTM is an adjuvant which provides immune stimulation at least ten-fold greater than known immune stimulants. The JuvImmuneTM system, employing a non-coding plasmid and lipid complex, offers substantial advantages over other immunotherapeutic approaches, including 1) simplicity of construction and formulation, 2) reduced cost of production, 3) high dose efficiency and potency, and 4) broad activity in multiple species by a variety of routes. JuvaVaxTM provides a more powerful therapeutic vaccine for bacterial, viral, and fungal/parasitic infections than conventional vaccines. JuvaVaxTM is functionally active in diseased mouse models, suggesting application of immune stimulation in immunocompromised individuals.
