Info

Rover Dramawerks is a Dallas Metroplex area theater specializing in the production of works not usually found in standard repertoire. Based in Plano and resident in the newly renovated Cox Building Playhouse along with Word of Mouth Productions and Ameristage Players, Rover Dramawerks is best known for its discovery of already published but overlooked work by popular playwrights, by artists not generally known for their stage writing and pieces that for no fault of their own are generally overlooked. This allows great flexibility in play selection while providing the public with more depth and breadth of exposure to available scripts than usual. Rover has produced across the Metroplex, using live performance venues around the Dallas and suburban areas as differing and distant apart as Flower Mound at the Flower Mound Performing Arts Theatre, Mesquite at the Mesquite Arts Center, Downtown Dallas at the Trinity River Arts Center (TRAC), old downtown Garland at the Plaza Theater and several times, including over a year of productions, in Addison as a tenant of the Addison Theatre Centre where we experienced the most memorable of relationships with the popular, well funded, and very outspoken Watertower Theatre. Rover is a member of the Dallas Theatre League and an active supporter of other local theaters, collaborating with as diverse groups and Frisco Community Theater on a production of Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus and with the edgy and brilliant Project X, of Raphael Perry and Shakespeare Dallas fame, on a pair of 24 hour play festivals, namely Rover's signature One Day Only (in this case #7) and Project X's 24-X presented as a part of the 2006 Urban Arts Festival. Our popular, eccentric and wildly exciting One Day Only projects, the brainchild of Carrollton Theater Audacity Productions' Brad McEntire, draw playwrights, directors and actors from as far north as Oklahoma, as far south as Austin, Texas, East into Texarkana and west to the cusp of Forth Worth and Burleson. We are proud to have supported, sponsored many productions in the area by such popular companies as Risk Theatre Initiative, The Hub / Shane Performing Arts, Act One in DeSoto and the always excellent Theatre Performance Department at Collin County Community College (Quad C). Rover Dramawerks offers classes in acting, performance and general theater and has a new and burgeoning children's theater component, Rover KidWerks. Popular children's themes are chosen with the specific eye towards our overall mission statement of offering underproduced works as an alternative to the standard array of children's theater. KidWerks also maintains an outreach project entitled "The Performance Troupe" that acts and entertainment, education and arts envoy to schools and children's facilities with messages about the value of art, the need to stay in school and the dangers of common childhood situations including drug abuse, pregnancy and dropping out of school. Rover Dramawerks offers adult classes in acting, stage interpretation and performance preparedness. Theater professionals provide training, evaluation and insight to actors looking to begin, develop or expand their careers and talent base.
