Berkshire Community College was founded in 1960 and was the first of 15 community colleges established by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Relocated in 1971, the college is made up of nine buildings on 180 acres. In 1984, the South County Center (a satellite facility in Great Barrington) was set up. Currently over 40 different degree and certificate programs are available for its students to enter the work force directly or to transfer for a bachelors.
