The Philomont Volunteer Fire Department (Loudoun County Fire & Rescue - Company 8) serves over 1450 homes covering approximately 40 square miles (known as the 1st due area) in central Loudoun County, Virginia (Click on the image to the right to enlarge). Philomont Volunteer Fire Department also provides mutual fire and rescue support to the five surrounding fire departments. The volunteer membership is composed of a Board of Directors, an administrative staff, an operational staff, and an Auxiliary. Loudoun County Fire Rescue Career Staff support the Department 7 days a week, 6:00am-6:00pm. In 2005, Volunteers dedicated over 11,000 hours serving the community. (see Organization/Membership). The Philomont Volunteer Fire Department provides fire/rescue and basic emergency medical services using a variety of emergency vehicles which include two Pumper/Engines, a Tanker, a Unit (Air/Light), a Brush Truck, a Command Vehicle and a Car (see Equipment). The Philomont Community has an Insurance Services Organization Mitigation (ISO) fire rating of 9. In 2006, the Philomont Volunteer Fire Department responded to over 450 calls (35% fire/rescue, 65% emergency medical). Typical fire/rescue calls include house and structure fires, chimney fires, automobile accidents, brush fires, investigations, and fire/smoke/carbon monoxide detector soundings. Typical emergency medical calls include heart attacks and strokes, trouble breathing, choking, abdominal pain, and falls. The Philomont Volunteer Fire Department is funded primarily through contributions and donations from families that live or businesses that operate in our 1st due area. The operating budget exceeds $120,000 per year. To supplement funding, the fire department holds several fund-raising events throughout the year (see Events).
