Amplifonix, now Spectrum Microwave - Philadelphia, is a manufacturer of Hybrid, Bi-Polar and GaAs FET Low to Medium Power Amplifiers, PIN Diode, and GaAs FET Switches and Voltage Controlled Oscillators (VCO) that operate in the frequency range of a few kHz to 3,000 MHz. The company was founded by Dr. Arthur Riben in August 1980. The company's original charter was to be a second source to amplifier manufacturers in the low frequency spectrum, commonly called the IF or RF sections of a system. Amplifonix accomplished this goal with over 500 products in competition with Motorola, Watkins-Johnson, Avantek/AVNET, Q-Bit , and M/A-COM-TYCO. During the past 26 years Amplifonix has established itself at almost every major system manufacturer in the United States and in many cases is now the primary source. The product line now includes over 5,000 customer specified amplifiers, switches, and VCO's, which are modifications of standards or new exclusive designs for customer applications.
