Info

Silverthought Press is an independent publishing company in Northern New York. Paul Hughes (Enemy, An End, Broken) launched Silverthought.com in January 2001 as a place for writers and fans of sf to gather, display, and discuss their work. The site quickly developed into a thriving online community. In 2005, Hughes announced the next step of the evolution of Silverthought.com, an offline publishing division, Silverthought Press. ST is a small press devoted to publishing work by promising new talent. Silverthought Press uses the latest in digital printing and distribution systems to ensure a quality product targeted at specific markets. The release of SP's first three publications coincided with the five-year anniversary of Silverthought.com. Silverthought Press isn't a vanity or subsidy press, nor is it a traditional publishing company. ST Press acts as a hybrid model, actively soliciting work from new talent and offering the opportunity for writers who otherwise might never be published to finally see their work in print. Silverthought Press seeks writers who are sick of watching their manuscripts waste away in slushpiles until an unpaid intern deigns to send a rejection slip. We want authors who are frustrated with the money-driven feedback loop of most demand-driven printing services. At Silverthought Press, we feel that writers should never have to pay to see their work published. If your work is strong, we'll invest in you. If your work could use some help, we'll put it through an intense, collaborative editorial filter. We want writers who are driven to succeed, who are confident in their work, and who have something genuinely interesting to say. There is an astounding array of untapped voices in this digital expanse, and Silverthought Press seeks them out and brings them to light. Silverthought Press engages in an intense collaborative process with potential authors; you've done the hard part, writing the book, now let's work together to make it the best it can be. ST Press works closely with authors across multiple revisions. Editor Paul Hughes (winner, 2002 Booksurge Editor's Choice Award, winner, 2003, honorable mention and finalist, 2006 Independent Publisher Book Award for Fantasy/Sci-Fi) has been a professional editor since 2000. He'll put your book through the paces. You'll work with a cover designer to create a cover that best fits how you'd like to display your book to the world. We'll use the latest in online distribution methods to sell your book online and consult with you to seek out and contact the target markets that will most appreciate your work. The key word in this collaboration is work; Silverthought Press develops a mutually-beneficial partnership with its authors, and for their hard work, authors receive royalties that are substantially higher than those that writers who publish through traditional presses receive. We're not interested in authors who want to sit back and let someone else do all the nuts-and-bolts legwork. Our authors are ambitious and believe in their creations, and as such, they deserve to be an integral part of the publishing process. If you're interested in learning more about working with Silverthought Press, please send a query to editor Paul Hughes. ST Press isn't a publishing model for everyone. If you'd rather float your work out to the traditional publishing houses and hope you make it out of the slushpile, you should. If you're expecting fame and fortune, approach a tradional publisher. If you'd like to pour money into a vanity or subsidy press and hope for the best, go ahead. But if you're interested in forming a partnership with a small publishing company that genuinely believes in its authors and their writing and wants to work hard to make sure their voices are heard, please consider Silverthought Press. The bottom line: 40% of the nominees in the 2006 Independent Publisher Book Awards Fantasy/Sci-Fi category were Silverthought Press publications. 66.7% of the then-current Silverthought Press catalog were nominated for an IPPY. You do the math,we'll do the publishing.
