Founded in 1933, the Peterborough Players has offered high-quality theatre for the Monadnock Region of southwestern New Hampshire and beyond for more than seventy years firmly establishishing a reputation as the premier desitination for theatre in the Monadnock Region. Since its inception, the Peterborough Players has presented its work in an intimate theatre located in a converted 18th-century barn at historic Stearns Farm, three miles from downtown Peterborough. Having completed the most extensive renovations in the company's history in 2006, the theatre now holds 249 in state-of-the-art, air conditioned comfort. As the only professional producing theatre in the region and one of the oldest summer stock companies in the country, the Players has staged more than 300 different plays over the years including works by Shakespeare and Shaw, Ibsen, Wilde, Wilder, Beckett, Williams, Miller and Mamet. Distinctive from the programming of many other summer theatres, the Players has also presented a variety of world and regional premieres as well as recent work by contemporary playwrights. The Players had a five show mainstage season until the summer of 2000 when the season was extended with a sixth production. For the summer of 2007, the Players added a seventh show making award-winning theatre available to the Monadnock region of southwestern New Hampshire until late September.
