James Ferrari, MDArthroscopic Rotator Cuff & Shoulder Stabilization Surgery Knee Ligament Reconstruction Knee & Shoulder Replacement-including Reverse Total Shoulder Replacement Coming to Colorado by way of New England, Dr. Ferrari received an early introduction to orthopedics as a career through his father, the head of Sports Medicine orthopedics at The University of Massachusetts Medical Center, and one of the team orthopedists for the Boston Red Sox. His father's enjoyment of the profession and the successful outcomes of his patients rubbed off on his son, who eventually decided to follow in his father's footsteps. Despite a childhood filled with hockey and baseball, he fortunately never needed his father's orthopedic services. At Amherst College in Massachusetts, Dr. Ferrari majored in biology and lettered in both hockey and baseball. After graduating with honors in 1986, he did research in immunology at Harvard Medical School for two years prior to entering medical school at The University of Massachusetts in Worcester. He received his doctorate of medicine in 1992. Traveling just a bit south to Connecticut, Dr. Ferrari did his surgical internship and orthopedic residency at The University of Connecticut Health Sciences Center. He completed his residency in 1997 and moved to Chicago where he completed a one-year Sports Medicine Orthopedic Fellowship at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center. Under the direction of Drs. Bernard Bach, Charles Bush-Joseph, Anthony Romeo, and Brian Cole, he received specialized training in all aspects of knee and shoulder surgery. After completing his fellowship, Dr. Ferrari moved to Colorado, where he became the director of Sports Medicine at Denver Health Medical Center. In addition to his clinical practice, he pursued many academic and research interests which he continues today. He relocated his practice to Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Specialists in 2001. Dr. Ferrari's primary clinical interests in addition to all aspects of sports medicine are arthroscopic rotator cuff and shoulder stabilization surgery, total shoulder replacement, knee ligament and meniscal surgery including meniscal transplantation, and knee replacement surgery. He is board certified in orthopedics and is a member of The American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, The Arthroscopy Association of North America, and The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Ferrari lives in Littleton with his wife and two young sons. When not practicing orthopedic surgery he enjoys golfing, skiing, cycling, and fly-fishing – all activities that prompted him to move to Colorado in the first place.
