Info
GTI has been chosen by the Washington State Patrol and the Washington Trucking Association as the Common Carrier SAFE FLEET OF THE YEAR. This award is for common carrier fleets that are based in Washington and operate in excess of 5 million mile per year. This award is based on safe miles, overall compliance and for providing a positive influence on others in the industry. This is great recognition of GTI's commitment to safety from the enforcement community. As a very special bonus, GTI driver Wayne Comstock has been chosen to represent Washington State as THE DRIVER OF THE YEAR in the Common Carrier Conference. This award is based on safe miles, compliance and overall performance in the trucking industry. Wayne has been a company driver at Gordon Trucking since October of 1984. Since joining GTI, Wayne has operated in excess of 3,355,870 miles accident free. In his entire career, Wayne has never had a chargeable accident. Wayne is a member of the elite, GTI, 3 Million Milers Club. He has traveled in all areas served by GTI and has operated semis, doubles, 40/25 combos and triple trailers. He was also one of the first driver trainers at GTI. Wayne is a phenomenal example of a true driving professional and is one of GTI's most valuable employees. The awards were presented by the WSP and the WTA on July 21st at Emerald Downs Race Track. The hard work of every associate is necessary to achieve real results, so we are pleased to share this with all members of the GTI team. Thanks to all of our employees, without your help winning this type of award would not be possible. GTI has made many significant changes in the safety and compliance areas for 2006 and the first quarter of 2007. One of these changes is the addition of Smith System Training to all new hire drivers as well as to the existing driver base. So far 877 drivers have been trained to the Smith System standards. Another change is the addition of dedicated safety managers at our 5 terminals. These people are working full time in the safety and compliance areas. GTI also has changed the student training program. Each driver trainer is required to complete both the Smith System training as well as Gordon Trucking's own driving training. They are also required to be trained on the skid pad in the state of Wisconsin. GTI continues to post very low ISS numbers and also continues the trend of decreasing driver turn-over. Gordon Trucking has also been very involved with the WSP's Homeward Bound program as well as the TACT program. We have also been awarded the highest score possible by SmartWay from the U.S. Environmental Agency Transport Partnership Program. This award is based on our program at reducing emissions. All in all, GTI has had a very successful year in both the safety and compliance departments and we are continuing to add more enhanced programs to further improve. As always, GTI will continue to make safety our top priority.
