OSWEGO , St. Luke Health Services in Oswego and affiliate Michaud Residential Health Services in Fulton have expanded their Short-Stay Rehabilitation Programs and will now provide physical, occupational and speech therapies six days a week. The Short Stay Rehab programs will now run Monday through Saturdays, beginning in the first week of October. St. Luke and Michaud will be the first healthcare providers to offer this program in the Oswego County area. Both Short Stay Rehabilitation programs provides intensive physical, occupational and speech therapy for those facing discharge from a hospital but are still in need of care and rehabilitation services for post-surgical or recovery from a major medical event. Two factors have influenced this decision, says St. Luke CEO and Administrator Terrence Gorman. "The first is consumer demand," said Gorman. "Patients now choosing our Rehab programs generally expect intensive and more frequent therapy sessions that can translate into shorter stays. It makes sense really, the technology and techniques physicians now utilize for a hip or knee replacement surgeries leave many patients better able to recuperate in a more timely fashion." The second factor, according to Michaud Administrator Mike Shafer is patient outcomes. "Our Rehab programs are focused on transitioning our patients from hospital to their home setting quickly and safely." "We have always been a leader in responding to the needs of our community," said Gorman. "Six day rehab therapy is something that will meet the needs of those who are looking for intensive rehabilitation services, close to home."
