Call us today at (714) 289-8400! How students are taught is what makes The Whitworth School truly unique. Our classrooms are an ideal balance of individualized study and non-stop activity and exploration. Every student learns how to become, and stay, industrious, purposeful and intent on their goals. We encourage you to find out more about how we do this. Each student is given a customized program and curriculum entry point that enables them to advance at their own pace and from the right starting point. Students are tested to determine their level of education and knowledge on each subject. A customized program is then created, enabling them to catch up and advance in each area of study. Students receive one-on-one supervision and assistance. Our philosophy of education is simple. Students should master their basic tools very well—then learn to really use what they learn. Our teaching and study methods emphasize practical application—because only in meaningful use can one work out the proper value of the many pieces of knowledge encountered in an education. This approach keeps our students continually evaluating new information in relation to the real world. Their education becomes something they build and own, not something piled onto them. In the end, we want to see our students maintain their individuality, while being self-motivated, confident and active. We want to cultivate purposeful individuals who are capable of pursuing and reaching their chosen goals. The study of a subject includes the information studied in a classroom environment and then the use of that information and involvement with it. Projects, activities, and actions are done by the students who then use the information they have learned. We don’t just put their head in a book. We get them involved with the subject. They get to see it, touch it, feel it, and know exactly what it is. They get involved with projects and activities about the subject so they really understand it. They make contact and gain a full understanding of the subject. They get to use it. In this type of educational environment, students achieve a love and enthusiasm for learning, and the skills that teach them how to learn. This creates a positive effect upon their lives and enables them to be successful in any endeavor they pursue. Our mission is to give young people a rich academic background, a strong sense of ethics and a broad range of abilities to successfully launch them into higher education, a career and life itself. More broadly, we want to help build a better world through effective education. The Whitworth School provides students the instruction, inspiration and opportunity to discover and achieve at their highest levels. We do this by employing loving, committed educators who believe in our mission; by conducting research, assessing our progress and adjusting to meet student needs; by investing in the children; by creating specialized individual programs for each student; and by involving parents in the learning process. We offer a multitude of experiences that extend learning far beyond the classroom. Students participate in day and overnight study trips throughout the year including snow trips and adventures to Lake Tahoe, Washington, D.C., and more. All students participate in musical and dramatic stage productions. <large>For more information, please contact carol@whitworthschool.org or call (714) 289-8400. <small>© 2009 The Whitworth School, Inc.
