TheatreFIRST is a nonprofit professional company dedicated to presenting the finest works of international drama to Bay Area audiences, focusing particularly on works rarely or never seen in this region. Our aim is to throw light on the art and culture of diverse nations, while providing our patrons with high quality entertainment. TheatreFIRST seeks to do this in an intimate theatrical setting, promoting a close, immediate connection between audience and performer, with the emphasis on the narrative and performative, rather than technical values. Our goal is to provide our audience intellectual as well as emotional stimulation, and to focus on issues of contemporary social and political concern that go beyond the psychological drama of the individual. TheatreFIRST is based in Oakland, where it is committed to making first rate theatre in a city where culture and the arts have traditionally found it hard to survive and serve this multi-cultural community.
