Mount Saint Mary College (MSMC) has had a number of students, mostly Marines, who have been deployed to Iraq. One National Guard member, Roland Chouloute, 27, served for a year (January 2004 to January 2005) in Baghdad where he was a non-commissioned officer processing students for training in the Iraqi police force. The program had great success in recruiting police officers, raising the number of trainees from 200 to 2,000 within a year and meeting the five percent goal for woman recruits. ,Word of our success, however, brought more gunfire to our area, six and seven times a day,, Chouloute said. The Haiti native is an interdisciplinary studies major in MSMC,s accelerated degree program; he will finish his degree December 2005.
