Tessera Capital Services, LLC (Tessera), an independent third-party sales and marketing firm that offers services to a select group of traditional and alternative investment management organizations, was founded in 2004. Tessera is 100% owned by Tessera Capital Partners, LLC, a state-registered investment adviser. Tessera is a Latin word meaning "cube" or "die" and generally refers to a small piece of marble, glass, or tile used in a mosaic (Miriam Webster, 2003). In relation to Tessera's business model the concept of a mosaic is especially valid. This name was selected because of the interpretation of Tessera representing a small piece of a larger picture; the missing piece of an investment management company without a sales and marketing capability. The firm's objective is not to offer one service but to offer all of the services in the sales and marketing arena that an investment manager may need to grow their business. Tessera offers a full array of sales and marketing services, on either a bundled or unbundled basis, including new business development, referral agent, consultant relations, client-service and marketing support. Tessera will partner with funds and investment managers to provide tailor-made solutions that will satisfy each one's individual needs. By understanding how all the pieces fit together Tessera will help managers navigate through the extremely complex institutional marketplace. In order to secure new business, an investment manager's sales and marketing function must be able to work with sponsor boards and committees, consultants, and in compliance with a variety of laws, regulations, and politics. Tessera's capabilities in these areas will help funds move past these obstacles and emerge with new assets under management.
