Info

Random Walk Computing, founded in 1995 by CEO Joel Scotkin and COO Jim Lowe, was initially known as Wall Street's first JavaÔ shop. Patterning itself after boutique consulting firms that thrived on the Street in the early 1990s and specializing in building applications based on advanced technologies, Random Walk quickly built a reputation for delivering state-of-the-art capital market systems. Following one of the tenets of financial technology, which is to keep the traders happy, Random Walk doubled in size and revenue in each of its first five years. Recognizing that building a track record of success would require the establishment of a development methodology, Random Walk hired Bruce Nolan in 1997 to fill the role of Director of Consulting Operations. Bruce created and documented ROADMAP®, which combined elements of CMM, rapid prototyping, QA, common sense and rules of engagement. This became a cornerstone of our foundation. As a new consulting company, Random Walk found a market that was not being adequately served by existing participants. Larger, established consulting companies would typically seek out multi-million dollar projects, at the exclusion of anything smaller in scale or scope. At the same time, a cottage industry of "body-shops" had sprung up, providing Wall Street firms with just-in-time contractors who had programming skills, but added to the project management burden. Web-development firms had sprouted up in Silicon Alley, right next to Wall Street firms, so managers of e-Commerce divisions were meeting with entrepreneurs that had little relevant domain knowledge, and a lot of money was wasted. As the company grew and matured, we saw the demand for our services coming mostly from three market sectors: trading desks looking to retire aging systems with newer, real-time, extensible systems; business units web- or network-enabling their enterprise in order to reach out to a growing client base; and a new generation of exchanges and marketplaces entering the field. Our strength in capital markets and growing client base enabled us to expand our business both organically by taking on new projects within our client organizations and by providing our services to asset management divisions of companies in related industries (insurance and banking). Today Random Walk has an enviable track record of success , over nine years of accomplishment completing hundreds of projects for 70 enterprise organizations. Our senior business advisors and technology consultants have years of industry experience delivering innovative solutions that create extraordinary value. We are committed to delivering high levels of customer satisfaction year after year. Balance and discipline remain central to our success.
