Founded in 1831, New York University is one of the largest private universities in the United States. The University, which includes fourteen schools and colleges, occupies six major centers in Manhattan. NYU has thirteen campus libraries, including law and medical libraries. The libraries of New York University hold collections totaling more than four million volumes and participate in consortial activities with six other libraries in New York City.
