Located in the heart of Greenwich Village in New York City, The New School is a legendary, progressive university comprising eight schools bound by a common, unusual intent: to prepare and inspire its 9,300 undergraduate and graduate students to bring actual, positive change to the world. The New School offered its first film course in 1926. Today The New School Media Studies and Film program offers a master's degree in media studies, which is one of the few in the country that integrates coursework in media theory, media production, and media management. In addition, the university offers certificate programs in film production, screenwriting, media management and documentary media studies. Throughout its 36-year history, the Media Studies and Film program has been committed to the essential relationship between media theory and practice.
