Info

Neal-Schuman is the leading independent, privately owned publisher of professional books for librarians, archivists and knowledge managers. Founded in 1976 by Patricia Glass Schuman and John Vincent Neal, the company is based in New York City, with offices in London, England. Neal-Schuman began as a packager of library reference and professional books for other publishers, including Oryx Press, John Wiley, and Gale Research. Since 1979 the company has published and marketed its own list and is considered a premier publisher in the field because of its unique access to librarians and others working on the cutting edge of new services . President Patricia Glass Schuman is a past-President of the American Library Association, Vice-President and Director of Publishing Charles Harmon is the former head of Information Services for the American Library Association, and series editors hail from libraries as diverse as Harvard University, The School of Information Studies at North Texas State University, the Chicago Public library, and the University of Michigan. This depth of experience has allowed Neal-Schuman to evolve with the professions it serves, and to become the leading publisher of materials specifically designed to help librarians build on their traditional skill sets and embrace new technologies. 2000 saw the establishment of The Neal-Schuman Foundation, a not-for-profit corporation formed to aid, assist, and promote research and educational activities for the improvement of library and information services. Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded research and program grants to Friends of Library USA , the Knowledge River Program at the University of Arizona 's School of Information Resources and Library Science, and the Sara Fine Institute at the University of Pittsburgh 's School of Information Sciences. 2007 marked the inauguration of the Neal-Schuman Professional Education Network, which makes available a wide array of web-based seminars and audio conferences from librarianship's leading trainers. This is a time of dizzying change for our profession, and Neal-Schuman is committed to helping librarians negotiate that change with confidence and optimism.
