Independent Digital Entertainment was founded in the summer of 1999 in New York City. It is the creation of director/producer Gary Winick and Cinetic Media's John Sloss. Creative inspiration for the company comes from significant sources such as Danish filmmaking collective Dogme 95 and vanguard filmmaker John Cassavetes. To date, InDigEnt has produced seventeen films by innovative filmmakers and has pioneered a unique film-financing/profit-participation structure in the process, one that is now regarded as a standard in low-budget filmmaking. The balance of the InDigEnt team consists of producer Jake Abraham, Emily Gardiner Herzog, Nancy Israel, Jo Kelly, Sara Shaw and Mandy Tagger. InDigEnt is dedicated to exploratory digital cinema, drawing on established screenwriters, directors and actors. Filmmakers agree to work within a framework of budgetary and technical limitations in exchange for an innovative financial structure and total creative freedom. The entire crew shares in the revenue generated from the first dollar, making this model the truest partnership in filmmaking.
