Frenkel & Co., Inc. ("Frenkel") was founded in 1878 by Emil Frenkel, a German immigrant. His sons, George and Leo, participated in the business and emulated Emil's pioneering spirit and leadership. They firmly established Frenkel's presence and reputation in the New York insurance market with the imagination and ingenuity characteristic of the American dream. In 1985, the Frenkel & Co., Inc. Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) was established, allowing Frenkel to remain an independent broker. Frenkel's ownership remained in the ESOP structure until it was purchased in January 2001 by our current President and Chief Executive Officer, John F. Kelly, and current Chairman of our Board of Directors, Robert E. Shunk. On September 11, 2001, Frenkel's employees were evacuated from Tower Two of the World Trade Center following the attack on Tower One. Following the disaster, Frenkel relocated its corporate headquarters to 1740 Broadway in New York City and established a significant client service facility in nearby Jersey City, New Jersey. We have recently relocated our New York Corporate office to 350 Hudson Street. We continue to service our West Coast clients from our office in Los Angeles, CA. Frenkel & Co., Inc. embraces our proud history of independent brokering today. Frenkel is consistently ranked within the top fifty independent insurance brokerages in the United States, and is a partner in the Assurex Network, providing our clients access to insurance services in over one hundred countries worldwide. In 2008, Frenkel & Co., Inc. is celebrating its 130th anniversary as an independent New York City broker.
