Classical Learning Universe (CLU) is an educational publishing company dedicated to the production of high quality, easy to use instructional materials. Our materials are designed around research-based principles of effective instruction. We set extremely high standards for ourselves and our products, and that is reflected in everything we do: research, program development, field testing, and interacting with our customers. Bob Dixon, the president of CLU, is the author of best selling programs in the language arts, including programs published by SRA/McGraw-Hill, St. Martins Press, and several dozen software programs published originally on the PLATO system at the University of Illinois. His specialization is the design of instruction, with an emphasis upon effective and efficient instruction for all students. Bob himself designs and directs the design of all CLU products. We develop curricula that address gaps in many commercial programs. These materials provide students with explicit instruction and substantial review, distributed over the course of an entire program. All of our programs are research based and are extensively field tested in schools with diverse populations. It is our goal that all of our programs: are easy to use, are flexible for educators, and result in successful students. Most importantly, our programs are instructionally effective and efficient.
