Asian Women in Business is a not-for-profit membership organization founded in 1995 to assist Asian women to realize their entrepreneurial potential. AWIB fills a vital need for women who need information, education and networking opportunities to start or expand their businesses. Since our opening reception in October 1995, we have sponsored many conferences and workshops, provided individualized technical assistance and served as a support mechanism for small business owners. Over 16,000 people have attended our sponsored events and we have become a reliable source of information for entrepreneurs. Since 9/11, AWIB has been actively involved with economic development and providing assistance to adversely affected businesses, both male and female owned, in Lower Manhattan. AWIB has an open door policy and works with other groups such as the Coalition of 100 Black Women, 100 Hispanic Women, and other organizations to maximize opportunities to share, learn and make business connections and deals. We also have consulting services in obtaining Minority/Women Owned Business Enterprise certification and other areas of business development. Above all else, we are available to assist our members in all aspects of small business development. AWIB has been featured in many media outlets, including, The Wall Street Journal, Nation's Business, New York Newsday, New York Post, Crain's, World Journal, Sing Tao, China Press, Korea Times, Korean Central Daily, Cho Sun Daily, Sae Gae Times, India Abroad, News India Times, India Post, Filipino Reporter, Headline Philippines, Asian Week and Asian New Yorker. AWIB was also featured on WNET-TV, Asian America - Channel 25, and various Asian TV and radio programs. The more members we have and the more we know about your needs, the more programs we will sponsor to give you that edge you need to succeed as an entrepreneur. Our programs are supported by membership dues, program fees, personal and corporate contributions and the efforts of our members and friends. Women start businesses at twice the rate as men but they are often at a disadvantage when it comes to knowing the right people, getting information and support and especially, capital to make their businesses grow. It is AWIB's mission to bridge that gap and to get you on the right track.
