Ares Capital Corporation (Ares Capital) is a specialty finance company that is a closed-end, non-diversified management investment company. Ares Capital's investment objectives are to generate both current income and capital appreciation through debt and equity investments by primarily investing in United States middle market companies. Ares Capital Management LLC (Ares Capital Management) acts as the investment adviser of the Company. Ares Capital invests in portfolio companies primarily in the form of first and second-lien senior loans and long-term mezzanine debt. The first and second-lien senior loans generally have terms of 3 to 10 years. The Company also, to a lesser extent, makes equity investments in private middle market companies. These investments have generally been less than $10 million each and are usually made in conjunction with loans it makes to these companies.
