Moran Towing Corporation
Info
Moran has provided its tug services to the Port of Portsmouth since 1967 and is proud of its role in supporting the growth of this modern port, which is one of the oldest working ports in the U.S. Portsmouth is a city of less than 25,000 people that is known for its historic attractions that date to its founding in 1623 as a seaport community. But beyond the small town charm of its historic riverfront district, the port of Portsmouth offers the international shipping community a dynamic deep water port facility located just 3 miles from the sea capable of accommodating the largest state of the art tankers and containerships. The port facilities include two heavy lift mobile cranes as well as yard cranes and easy access to rail and to Interstate 95. In addition to being a tourist attraction themselves, Moran's tugs handle the docking and sailing requirements of the myriad of vessels that call at the port, including oil and gas tankers, liquid propane carriers and bulk carriers loaded with gypsum, salt and coal. The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard is one of only three public facilities on the east coast that overhauls nuclear submarines. Moran has added special fenders on specified tugs which assist these nuclear vessels in moving safely in and out of their berths. As a certified Responsible Carrier under the American Waterways Operators program, Moran provides its customers the assurance that their ships will be handled in full compliance with all safety and environmental concerns. As one of the 13 port divisions of Moran Towing Corporation, the Portsmouth division has access to Moran's resources, including equipment, training and ongoing maintenance, which enhances its ability to consistently provide the highest quality of service around the clock 365 days a year.
