Riechers Spence & Associates (RSA) is a consulting civil engineering company, with offices in Napa and Sacramento. Founded as Charles W. Shinnamon & Associates in 1980, over the course of the ensuing years our firm has enjoyed the growth and satisfaction that come from completing many successful civil engineering projects. Peter Riechers joined the firm in 1981 and was named Vice President in 1986. Alan Spence joined the team as a project manager in 1989. When Charles Shinnamon retired in 1992, Peter and Alan purchased the company. In January 1997, Peter and Alan changed the name of the company to Riechers Spence & Associates and assumed duties as Peter Riechers, President and Alan Spence Vice President. In January 2000, RSA opened Structural Engineering Solutions, (SES), a sister company in Napa, specializing in structural engineering design services. SES has been under the leadership of Don Hogancamp since May 2003. In May 2005, Don assumed ownership of SES. On June 1, 2004 the RSA Sacramento Office was opened to provide civil engineering services to our clients in this high growth area with a focus on subdivisions and commercial and to bring our winery experience to the Sacramento Valley and Foothills. RSA continues to evolve in its 25th year, recently announcing the addition of four new principals to the firm. Former project managers Chris Tibbits, who started with the company in 1997; Hugh Linn, who has been with the firm since 2000, Ryan Gregory, who began with RSA in 1998, and Stanley Keith, Sacramento Branch Manager will share the ownership and management duties with Alan Spence, President and Peter Riechers, Vice President. Principals continue to provide hands-on design and engineering direction for all RSA projects. We foster cooperative attitudes and establish clear communication links with governmental agencies. We continually monitor the inner-workings and requirements of the various governmental agencies and use this knowledge to customize preparation of our plans and specifications to meet these requirements and facilitate a timely, successful review. While some engineering firms create designs by the book, we feel it is vitally important to review our design from our client's point of view, whether that client is a governmental agency, a developer, or a land/homeowner. We do our utmost to balance the requirements of governmental agencies with the functional needs of the client to find a cost-effective solution that satisfies both.
