TimesTen provides the infrastructure software that developers use to create applications with exceptional performance and availability. The TimesTen product line consists of three products built from five core technologies, used by applications to manage real-time data, events, and transactions. The key distinction for TimesTen's products is the use of memory-resident data and memory-optimized algorithms. Modern computing platforms are rich in memory, CPU power, and network bandwidth. Yet, most infrastructure software products rely too much on the use of slow, mechanical disks as part of their fundamental architectures. Indeed, all data management products in wide use today were designed over two decades ago, around a disk-centric architectural model. TimesTen turns this model upside down, using memory as the primary storage location, replicated data to enable continuous operation, and disks only for backup and recovery. As a result, applications are built upon a more responsive, more scalable infrastructure, without compromising the integrity and durability of the data or applications. Although TimesTen's products use a novel architectural approach, the external interfaces to applications are all based on commonly used industry standards, such as SQL, JDBC, ODBC, SNMP, and XML. TimesTen's products are built to easily interface with existing infrastructure software, such as back-office databases, enterprise message buses, application servers, and workflow managers. In many cases, applications developed with TimesTen are extensions of existing systems, where the addition of real-time responsiveness or greater scalability resolves a problem or capitalizes on an emerging opportunity.
