Rural Transit Enterprises Coordinated, Inc. (RTEC) is a non-profit corporation which was organized in 1989 and began providing community transit services open to the public in rural Southeast Kentucky during July 1990. Beginning as a single county transit system, RTEC quickly grew to the 12-county transit system it is known as today and has received several awards from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Office of Transportation Delivery in recognition of its accomplishments. The community transit service is made possible through grant funds for public transportation and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Office of Transportation Delivery. The revenues needed for matching requirements and other transit operations are generated through various contracts for transportation services. Operating expenses are reduced through cash fare box.
