The South Brunswick Police Department is committed to a diverse police agency, representative of our community. In pursuing that goal we have recruited and encouraged women in policing. Our first woman officer was hired in August 1989. The South Brunswick Police Department currently has 79 sworn officer and 2 are women; Officer Tara Fiandaca and Officer Susan Gerdes. Officer Fiandaca joined the department in July 1997 and is currently assigned to the patrol division. Officer Fiandaca is also our domestic violence liaison/instructor officer. Her responsibilities include; coordinating the efforts of our domestic violence response team, keeping our officer's informed of changes in domestic violence law and processing domestic violence documents. Officer Gerdes joined the department in December 1997 and is also assigned to the patrol division. Officer Gerdes is one of the department's evidence technicians. Officer Gerdes was also temporarily assigned to the Middlesex County Prosecutors Office/Narcotics Task Force. The South Brunswick Police department offers women a wide variety of opportunities including assignment to the investigative division (Detective and Juvenile), traffic division, School Resource Officer, evidence technician, promotion and many other challenging roles.
