Info
Catholic Eldercare was established in 1980 to offer elders of all faiths high quality of life, compassionate care, and spiritual nourishment. It was a combination of luck, timing, dedication, and a 'can do' attitude that allowed a small group of people, former Minneapolis Mayor Al Hofstede, Sr. Ruth Roland, Tom Glodek, Mike Shasky, Monsignor J. Jerome Boxleitner, Bob Hannah, and Chuck Sullivan, among others,to identify and address a growing need for elder services in Northeast Minneapolis. After Little Sisters of the Poor built a new facility in St. Paul and closed their nursing home in Northeast Minneapolis, the region's largest city was left without a Catholic facility for the aged. The group of dedicated founders purchased the former St. Anthony School which, after renovation, became the nursing home; soon Catholic Eldercare on Main was full. In 1985, Catholic Eldercare added an adult day program. Later, in 1995, the assisted-living facility, Main Street Lodge, was built next door to the nursing home. In 2004, the RiverVillage residences in Northeast Minneapolis will open, offering affordable assisted and independent-living accommodations. Catholic Eldercare serves elders of all faiths.
