The Mount Rainier Scenic Railroad is a 501(c)(3) non-profit branch of the Western Forest Industries Museum (Your tax-deductible contributions are always welcomed and appreciated!) The MRSR is dedicated to preserving historic locomotives and equipment that played such a key role in the logging and timber industries of the Pacific Northwest. Five Facts about the Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad and the Western Forest Industries Museum:At the Museum Collection and Restoration Site in Mineral, the Railroad and Museum is steward to the world's most unique collection of logging locomotives. The Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad is the longest continuously operating steam railroad in Washington State , perhaps the West Coast , 26 years in August. Because the railroad has been operating steam locomotives for more than a quarter of a century, it has trained more steam locomotive engineers than any other operation in Washington State , maybe the Pacific Northwest. Over the years, many of our volunteer student engineers have gone on to "paying" positions with regional and national railroads. The Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad and Western Forest Industries Museum is a not-for-profit, living history museum. More than 90% of its regular train crew consists of volunteers. While not nearly the largest attraction in Pierce County, the railroad is the largest tourist attraction in Lewis County with almost 21,000 riders in 2006 and countless passers-by seeking to snap a picture of a steam train.
