Info
Independence Golf Club has been made possible through the efforts of the VSGA Foundation. The VSGA Foundation was formed as an extension of the Virginia State Golf Association for the purpose of engaging exclusively in charitable activities with a primary emphasis on the construction of a statewide golf center that would be dedicated to programs "for the good of the game." With this in mind, the goal of the VSGA Foundation is to participate in activities which foster amateur and junior golf in the Commonwealth of Virginia, including but not limited to construction facilities such as Independence Golf Club and the operation of programs for education, instruction, research, competition, preservation of history and other charitable purposes. Prior to the formation of the Foundation, the VSGA Board assembled a committee in 1982 to study the feasibility of creating a home for golf in Virginia, with proper emphasis given to the traditions of the games. The idea languished for about 12 years, but in 1994 the VSGA Board re-examined the concept relative to its mission and voted unanimously to pursue the concept. Once organized, it became the initial focus of the VSGA Foundation to raise funds from contributors to fund its activities. Initially, the organization's sources of financial support came from a capital campaign generating gifts from individuals, organizations and foundations, plus support from the USGA and the VSGA. Under the direction of Foundation President Troy Peery, Jr., theFoundation has received donations from over 400 contributors.
