GeriU is the first Online Geriatric University dedicated specifically to the provision of accurate and timely information on aging issues. GeriU provides a highly effective pedagogical and communication platform for medical students, residents, faculty and community physicians to learn, seek information and discuss their experiences and concerns including geriatric medicine. The site is content-driven, community oriented, and focused on the provision of the most current information on aging issues. Recognizing the varying educational and informational needs of its target users, GeriU personalizes content and access at all levels on an ongoing basis, taking formal requirements into account, as well as individualized needs and preferences. GeriU enhances the educational experience of its users by providing highly interactive modules on aging issues that serve to complement the trainees' overall and ongoing learning process in geriatric medicine and gerontology. GeriU does not intend to replace conventional learning in the class and/or the clinical setting but aims to augment users' knowledge and proficiency by offering a customized platform that the user can utilize at his/her own leisure. Our Mission: To enhance gerontology and geriatrics education for health care professionals through the use of information technology, develop training and care initiatives/models for community-identified needs in geriatrics, and to develop care models for education and curricular tools to increase the quality of and enthusiasm for geriatrics education at all levels. GeriU is designed to support the learning and communication needs of medical students, nurses, residents, fellows, physicians and other health-care professionals. By establishing a community-oriented, informational site aimed at providing the most accurate and up-to-date information on aging issues, GeriU seeks to improve health care for the elderly through its impact on geriatric education at all levels.
