The McDowell Hospital provides general acute care services consistent with its role as the primary care provider for McDowell County. This 65 bed, not-for-profit facility is governed by a 12 member volunteer Board of Trustees. The present structure, opened in 1983, is the sixth hospital to serve the people of McDowell County since the early part of the last century. The current administration adheres to the philosophy that a strong health-care environment provides invaluable benefits to our community. Our main goal is always to provide the highest quality of care with concern and regard to its cost. We also see our role as leaders in health promotion through hospital and outreach programs targeting industrial workforces, senior and academic communities, children and families.
