Info
Prospect is a friendly church in which to gather for worship and fellowship. The congregation shares a strong social conscience and a commitment to traditional Christian values. Our church is committed to the spiritual growth of all of its members; we encourage continued study, prayer and fellowship in small groups, and through youth and adult education. Our outreach program includes a forum for prospective members to explore their Christian faith while making the choice to join this or any Christian church. Members of Prospect demonstrate their faith through local and global mission programs with hands on participation and financial support. The Essex County Interfaith Hospitality Network (for the homeless) had its beginnings at Prospect. Through the years, our congregation has been a pacesetter in creative ministry. We were one of the first churches in the county to use the Kerygma Bible Study program. We care for, and we care about our children. In point of fact, the first recorded business of our church (at a 1914 meeting to establish Prospect Presbyterian Church) was to "secure teachers" and "to get estimates of the cost of Sunday School supplies." That is the way we began at Prospect - with the hope that our children would be given suitable religious training. And that is how we continue to this day. The quality of our community and the character of our church attest to this. Today, we continue to seek new ways to include all the generations at Prospect. We are leading the way in a transportation ministry from a local retirement community to the church. We hold monthly services at the retirement community. We intentionally seek ways to include children in worship through an integrated Sunday School and worship study program and specially prepared bulletins for our children. We continue to look forward to the future that God is giving us in our ministry and service as a community of faith.
