Vandewalle & Associates is a community planning, design, economic development and redevelopment consulting firm based in Madison. Over the past twenty-five years, the firm has assembled a growing team of experts in the art of shaping and reshaping Midwestern cities and landscapes to meet future community needs. The firm offers services in the areas of community planning and growth management, transportation planning, intergovernmental planning, urban revitalization and redevelopment, economic development, landscape architecture, urban and regional design, plan implementation, and special studies. Vandewalle & Associates is seeking a qualified individual to fill an internship focused on geographic information systems (GIS), community planning, and growth management. Specifically, this position will assist professional planners in preparing and editing maps using GIS, performing economic development research, and completing miscellaneous administrative functions. Applicants should be skilled in written communication, microcomputer applications, organizing time efficiently, and working independently. Experience using ArcView GIS software is strongly preferred. The position requires applicants to be highly motivated, have the ability to work independently without direct supervision and work within deadlines and budgets. No previous professional experience is required. This would be a paid internship, without benefits. Scheduling is flexible, provided that nearly all work takes place within our offices during normal business hours. At a minimum, the internship would be for fall 2007, but could extend beyond dependent on performance, workload, and the schedule and desires of the selected individual.
