The Silverlake Conservatory of Music, a non-profit organization founded by Flea, provides affordable music lessons, instruments, and scholarships for children starting as young as 3 years old, and up to adults of any age. Through enabling kids and adults from any beat to get involved with music, the Silverlake Conservatory aims to provide a constructive means to combat problems such as self destructive behaviour, violence and drug addiction for example. Musical study has been scientifically proven to encourage the development of critical thinking and self discipline skills. Moreover it can greatly improve children' s early cognitive development, basic math and reading abilities, self-esteem, SAT scores, ability to work in teams, spatial reasoning skills, and school attendance. As statistics show, the long term result is that children involved with music education will be more likely to graduate from high school and attend college, and are less likely to be involved with gangs and substance abuse.
