Info

Located in north-east Baltimore County, the Long Green Volunteer Fire Company provides Fire and initial EMS service to communities located in the gently rolling hills of Long Green Valley. Although independently operated, we are part of the Baltimore County Fire Service, which is made up of 25 career companies and 35 volunteer companies, serving a population of 754,000 residents over 610 square miles. Protecting primarily the Long Green Community, we also provide mutual aid assistance to Jacksonville, Providence, Kingsville, Parkville and the Fallston area of Harford County. Following the rich traditions dating back to our colonial ancestors, the Long Green Volunteer Fire Company was established in 1930 by a group of local citizens interested in providing fire protection to their community. That same tradition carries on today, 77 years later. Local residents show their sense of public spirit by volunteering time to keep their community safe. Our membership consists of professionals, white and blue collar workers and even college and high school students. In the true spirit of "volunteerism", no member receives compensation. And, there are commitments. To ensure utmost safety of our personnel, members receive considerable training before they are allowed to participate on an emergency incident. The training, which comes from the State of Maryland, the Baltimore County Fire Department and the Long Green Volunteer Fire Company, is provided at no cost to the member. In addition, we ask for participation in company meetings and work nights to make sure our administrative and suppression responsibilities are kept at high standards. However, we also understanding of the complexities of today's family responsibilities and appreciate any time an individual can give. Frequently, we hear from area residents, "why would anyone want to do this job". Quite simply, there are many rewards. There is no better feeling of self satisfaction and pride than to participate in the successful reviving of a cardiac arrest patient or the rescuing of a trapped occupant from an automobile or burning building. And, the spirit of camaraderie that exists in a volunteer fire company is unlike that found in any organization. Why, you may ask? Because in the heat of "fire combat", we know that if someone gets into trouble, our fellow members are going to be there for us. We are proud of our fleet of apparatus which consists of 2 engines, an EMS "quick response" vehicle, a brush unit and a utility vehicle. Our Engine 381 is unique in that it is considered a "high capacity" tanker carrying 2000 gallons of water and is part of the "Tanker Strike Team" protocol. This unit is especially useful in areas where there are no fire hydrants or on Interstate Highways where water supply is limited. As with any volunteer organization, we are dependent on local residents for both monetary donations and membership. The Baltimore County Government provides us with an allowance which essentially allows us to maintain our vehicles. However, money for new equipment and renovations to our fire house must be procured through business and residential fund drives. We are grateful for everything we receive from the Long Green Community and for all they do for us.
