The company, formerly COOK Pacemaker Corporation, has the distinction of developing and marketing the first true physiologic rate responsive pacemaker that adjusted the output rate of the pulse generator based on minute changes in intra-cardiac blood temperature. In the early to mid 1990's, the growth of a number of its non-pacing product lines led to a change in the organization's corporate direction, its discontinuation of pacemaker fabrication and ultimately to the changing of its name to COOK Vascular Incorporated. As the pioneering leader in LEAD EXTRACTION technology, CVI introduced the original tools specifically designed for removing transvenous pacing leads in the late 1980's. Since then, repeated product advancements have led to the release of two next generation extraction devices: the LIBERATOR Locking Stylet, a "one size fits all" locking stylet and the newest and most cost effective powered extraction sheath, the PERFECTA Electrosurgical Dissection Sheath which utilizes RF energy to locally dissect the fibrous adhesions that surround indwelling cardiac leads. Adding to these innovations is the unique NEEDLE'S EYE® Snare for femoral approach extractions. The Cook-Swartz Doppler Flow Probe and Monitor System has been developed to meet the need for an effective tool to assess vascular patency. The absence of the monitor's audible signal alerts the medical staff that a potential problem with perfusion may exist, thus providing the opportunity for early intervention.
