Info
Allen Press has been operating in Lawrence, Kansas since 1935 when Harold Allen, founder of the company, started a two-man print shop in the basement of a downtown bank building. The Press printed its first scientific journal in 1952, the Wilson Bulletin, an ornithological journal that we are still printing today. Since then, Allen Press, Inc. has grown to become a leading supplier of a broad array of integrated services for organizations and publishers with scientific, technical, and medical (STM) journals. Currently, the company employs more than 400 people and provides services for more than 300 scientific, technical, and medical organizations. From our offices located in the geographical center of the country, we currently provide a wide variety of editorial services as well as print, bind, and mail more than 450 publication titles. Allen Press has built a national and international reputation for the unsurpassed quality of its many publications. Long the industry leader in fine screen halftone and exact match color reproduction, we set the standard against which other scientific printers are measured. We remain the only printer routinely providing this quality of illustration, with no increase in cost over lesser halftone processes. The journals produced at our facility in Lawrence cover virtually every field of research; from archaeology and paleontology to psychology and sociology; from medicine and the health services to botany and zoology. The content that we deliver in print and Internet-based forms is used by leading professionals and libraries throughout the world. Our production models will provide you with digitally integrated publishing solutions and supply you with the best advantages of online technologies. Our offerings can be integrated seamlessly into your existing workflow. Our hallmark is the flexibility to customize our services to each individual publisher’s production needs. As a dedicated scientific printer and publisher, we understand the need for a fully integrated and efficient production process that simplifies publishers’ functions, delivers fast turnaround, and drives down costs. We remain a family owned and managed company. That, coupled with our relatively small size, gives us the unique ability to respond quickly to market pressures. This means decisions can be made quickly and by the very people with whom you have daily contact. We think of ourselves as the printer that is “big enough to do the job, but small enough to care.†Once you get to know us, we think you’ll agree.
