Over 40 years ago, Patten Seed pioneered in the production, harvesting, and processing of Centipede grass seed (previous to then, Centipede could be established only by sprigging or sodding). Since then, we have managed thousands of acres of Centipede grass for seed production, and more than one million lawns have been established with Centi-Seed ®, produced, processed and marketed by us. Patten Seed is the exclusive retail provider for TifBlair® Centipede seed. Long ago, experiment stations began releasing improved hybrid Bermuda grasses bred and/or selected for golf courses, athletic fields and lawns. As one of the early growers of these improved grasses, we recognized the need for new techniques and equipment for harvesting and transplanting them, and designed and built, and in some cases patented, machinery and methods for harvesting and transplanting which most of our competitors have copied. Golf courses quickly became the largest users of the improved Bermudas, and our Nursery Superintendent sprigged the first golf course ever planted in hybrid Bermudas under contract. Patten Bermudas are now on golf courses around the world, and years ago we furnished grass for the 10,000th golf green to go into Patten hybrid Bermudas. Planting a new championship golf course is one thing. Growing it to maturity and maintaining it to the exacting standards required for championship golf is another and different experience. For many years, we maintained some of the finest courses in the Bahamas under perennial contract, furnishing all supervision, personnel and equipment. We are active in the ownership, operation and maintenance of seven golf courses with 135 holes in the Atlanta area - two Canongate Clubs, Flat Creek Club, Braelinn, Planterra Ridge, Chapel Hills and Mirror Lake Golf Clubs. This keeps us current in the complex fields of chemicals, equipment and techniques peculiar to golf and athletic turf maintenance, enabling us to pass on to our customers information that is both practical and valuable. Patten Seed was one of the first growers of Certified Zoysias and we continue to grow more Zoysia than all our Georgia competitors combined, and are now pioneering in Zoysia seed production. Zenith® Zoysia, available as both sod and seed, provides a dark-green, medium textured turf for use in a wide array of applications. EPCOT at Disney World was sodded with our Emerald Zoysia and millions of visitors have marveled at this magnificent turf. One look will sell you for life on Super Sod Zoysia.
