The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) functions as a cultural center - a forum for the exploration of contemporary art and ideas; an art museum preserving, presenting, and interpreting the art of our time; and a research laboratory for artists and audiences. Its Mission Statement reads: MCASD serves its audiences through the collection, preservation, exhibition and interpretation of works of art created from 1950 to the present. Focusing on a bi-national and diverse constituency in the San Diego/Tijuana region as well as a national and international audience, we devote ourselves to the collection, preservation, exhibition, and study of works of art of the highest quality created since 1950; and, through these works, to increase understanding, appreciation, enjoyment and interest in art and its ability to enhance and enrich our lives. We foster the work of living artists and promote an awareness and appreciation of the value and nature of emerging artistic creativity; and present and interpret significant developments in contemporary art through an innovative and interactive education program for adults and children.
