The Larson Casteel Company is a landscape architecture firm in Kingston, Washington. We specialize in critical area designs, mitigation and restoration plans, master plans, and park design. Our experience includes commercial, public and residential designs. The past 20 years have afforded us the opportunity to work with individual clients as well as small and large groups. Some projects have required us to do extensive interagency governmental coordination, while others have tapped our considerable skills in construction administration. We've also facilitated forums for several diverse (and passionate!) community groups, allowing them to discuss various landscape design challenges and arrive at creative, collaborative solutions. "Sustainable" has become a buzzword in landscape design. To many people, it simply means drought tolerant. At Larson Casteel, a sustainable design is one that is based on the existing ecosystem; it grows with the client without needing restructuring and it can sustain itself as well as the client (for example, by providing food or shade). In creating a sustainable design, we rely on techniques that include low impact construction, soil analysis and re-building, recycling and the use of recycled materials, plant selection based on ecological and maintenance conditions, responsible irrigation techniques, seasonally timed plant installation, and long-term organic based maintenance programs. But we'll be the first to admit we don't know it all. (Does anyone?) That's why we're committed to attending ongoing education programs that keep our entire staff on the leading edge of sustainable practices and procedures. We aren't in the landscape architecture business to erect monuments to our own vision, nor do we spend time and money entering competitions in the hope of winning accolades from our peers. Our rewards come in the form of melding different styles to create effective designs that meet the goals of our client and the site.
